20,000. With 25 elementary schools, 8 middle schools, 1 grade 8/9 school, 5 high
schools, 1 K/12 school and alternative education schools, we have over 2,800,000
square feet of building space to maintain.
The Maintenance and Operations Department is comprised of a
dedicated staff of technical and trade professionals to serve the many and
varied needs of our schools. Within the maintenance department we have three
master licensed plumbers, four master electricians, eight carpenters, six HVAC
technicians, two HVAC preventative maintenance technicians, one furniture repair
person, one kitchen equipment repair person, one locksmith, one welder, one
roofing repair person, two NICET certified fire alarm technicians and four painters. All work is coordinated and scheduled
through our three department foremen in conjunction with our Maintenance
Coordinator and our Projects Coordinator.
The oldest of our facilities was built in 1903 and is still
functioning well as an administrative center. Our newest buildings were
constructed in 2005/2006 and serve as modern and efficient centers for learning.
Altogether, the average age of District 51's buildings is a little over forty
one years old.
