**Pursuant to Senate Bill 08-123, The Colorado General Assembly has expanded the School Lunch Protection Act to the 5th grade.  The General Assembly found that good nutrition is an essential component of student learning and that by increasing the number of students who can receive a free, nutritious lunch, more students will be able to participate in the learning process. This law created a fund to eliminate the reduced-price lunch for all kindergarten through fifth grade students.

* Pursuant to Senate Bill 07-059, signed by Governor Ritter on 05-15-2007, effective July 1, 2007, the general assembly concluded that it would serve the best interests of Colorado students to create a fund to eliminate the reduced price paid for breakfast by children who are eligible for reduced-price meals under the terms and conditions set forth in the federal "National School Lunch Act", 42 U.S.C. sec. 1751 et seq. and who are participating in the federal school breakfast program created in 42 U.S.C. sec. 1773.
