Human Resources - Substitutes

District 51 accepts applications for substitutes on a continuous basis, but will only hire substitutes during a hiring block. The date of the next hiring block is posted below.  Please read this page in its entirety to fully understand the hiring process and requirements.

THE NEXT HIRING BLOCK WILL BE JUNE 18TH - JULY 1ST. 

SPECIAL EDUCATION PARAPROFESSIONAL APPLICATIONS WILL BE TAKEN AT ALL TIMES.  

(For both Licenesed Substitute Teachers and Classified/Support Positions, including Substitute Paraprofessionals and Substitute Secretaries)

 

All substitutes are required to be fingerprinted and have a background check.

 

District 51 requires all substitute teachers to have a bachelor's degree and one of the following:

- Current Colorado Teaching License

- Colorado 3-year or 5-year Substitute Authorization License 

- Submitted License application with fingerprint requirement met

Licensing information may be obtained from the Colorado Department of Education (CDE).  Interested substitute teaching applicants should begin the licensing application process through CDE early, as the process can take up to 12 weeks or longer.  Applicants should have their license, or have applied for their license, prior to applying for a substitute teacher position with District 51. 

Classified/Support Substitute position including substitute paraprofessionals, substitute secretaries, and subsitute health assistant are not required to have a  bachelor's degree or CO teaching license.   Experience in a school setting is preferred, but not required.   Substitute health assistant applicants must have a current CPR certification.  

In order to be considered for employment, please provide the following documentation for your applicant file:

  • Completed online application through applitrack
  • Current Resume
  • 3 Letters of Recommendation (letters should not be from the same individuals listed as references on the application)
  • Official or Unofficial transcripts (licensed substitute teacher applications only)
  • Copy of Colorado Teaching Certificate or Licensure, or a statement of the status of the application to the Colorado Department of Education (licensed substitute teacher applications only.)

Be sure to read all of the information under the particular hiring block as requirements may change.  Applications must be complete to be considered.

Please note, obtaining a Colorado teaching license or substitute authorization, and submitting all other required District 51 application materials, does not guarantee an applicant will be hired by District 51 as a substitute teacher.  This is an application process, and you must be hired to become a substitute employee.

 

After a hiring block closes, the Substitute Specialist may need up to 4 weeks to review applications depending on the number of applications received and current job volume requirements. References are checked. Please be sure to make your references aware of the call they may receive. All applicants will be contacted via email as to whether or not he/she was hired as a substitute.
